Valentine Cut Out Cookies

"I looked for years for the perfect cut out cookie dough recipe and little did I know it was in a package right in the baking aisle of the grocery store! Best cut out cookies ever!" - craftymamaof4
- 1 package Betty Crocker sugar cookies plus ingredients noted on package
- 2 egg whites
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp almond extract
- Whilton color gel (can also use food coloring, but the gels give you a much richer true color)
- Valentine sprinkles and sugars
Make cookies
1. Prepare cookie dough as indicated on the package for cut out cookies
2. Roll out dough and cut using heart shaped cookie cutters
3. Bake cookies according to package instructions
Make Icing
1. Put egg whites into bowl and whip using an electric mixer on high until they are white, light and fluffy (should look like very light whipped cream)
2. stir powdered sugar into eggs slowly, mixture will thicken up.
3. add almond extract and several drops of color gel.
Decorate
1. let cookies cool completely
2. ice with icing and top with sprinkles and sugars
