1 cup buttermilk – (can use sour cream or 3 tablespoons vinegar in 1 cup whole milk)
2 ½ cups flour
6 tablespoons (heaping) cocoa
2 teaspoons soda
½ teaspoon salt
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat. Add buttermilk. Sift together dry ingredients, add to mixture then add 1 cups boiling water, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Bake 45 mins in 350 f. oven.
Chocolate Frosting
In saucepan melt 1 square butter, pinch salt, 3 Tablespoons Cocoa, after melting add 1/3 cup milk, bring to boil, take off stove and add 1 teaspoon vanilla and enough powdered sugar to make spread able.
