Getting started in Springpad

How do I set up my Springpad profile?

Just by creating a Springpad account, you've got a profile. Click on settings to add a photo, URL & a blurb about yourself.

Your public profile can be found here: http://springpadit.com/YOURUSERNAME.

If you need a refresher on how to use some of Springpad's key features, click on Getting Started in the upper right hand corner of Settings.

How do I find things I've added to Springpad?
Everything you add to your Springpad is databased in your "My Stuff." You can find things there using sorting or filtering. You can also find your stuff by using the search bar at the top of the page.
How do I add photos, videos, notes or links?
You can personalize any item in your Springpad by adding notes & media. Just click on the name of the item to see a full page view of the item. At the bottom of the page, you can then add photos, videos, notes, links & files. As you add notes & media, you can choose whether each attachment should be Public or Private. Attachments can be deleted later, but cannot be edited.
What are tags & how do they work?
Tags are a powerful & flexible way to organize your data. Once you tag an item, you can later search for that term or filter by it in "My Stuff."
How do I add the Clipper to my browser toolbar?

Drag the "Spring It!" button below to your browser's bookmark bar. If you're using Internet Explorer, right-click it and choose "Bookmark this link" and select your bookmark bar as its destination.

Sharing & Privacy Settings

How do I share information with other people?
There are a few ways to share your stuff in Springpad:
  • Invite your friends to follow you: Just tell your friends to check out your profile at http://springpadit.com/YOURUSERNAME. Your friends can see anything you've made public & if they signup for Springpad, they'll be able to comment on your stuff & make copies for themselves.
  • Send one of your Public things to your friends via Facebook, Twitter or Email
  • Send one of your Private things to your friends via Email. Just click on Share.
  • If you'd like to collaborate with a family member by giving them access to everything in your account, you can invite them to be a System Member (under Settings). Note that every person you invite to be a member of your system will need to sign up for a new Springpad account.
What is my profile url?
http://springpadit.com/YOURUSERNAME
What if I want to keep everything private?
No problem! As you add new things to your Springpad, just choose that you want your data to be private. If you add things from your friends, those things will be Public by default, but you can always change the setting to Private.
I have a blog & would like to tell my readers about my Springpad profile.
You can add a badge to your blog that sends your readers to your profile. Check out the instructions here: http://springpartners.com/2009/07/add-a-springpad-badge-to-your-blog/
How do I share apps?
Apps cannot be shared between users, but you can make a list of items & share that with your friends. You can create or add to a list from My Stuff.

Integrating Springpad with other online services

What data services does Springpad work with?
  • GMail - for adding contacts & syncing calendar events
  • Facebook - for adding contacts
  • Amazon - for adding products, albums & books
  • Flickr - for adding photos to Milestones
  • Netflix - for finding movies
  • Yelp! - for adding restaurants
  • Yahoo Local - for adding business, hotels & restaurants
  • Fandango - for purchasing movie tickets
  • Open Table - for making dinner reservations
  • ZVents - for upcoming event listings
  • Wine.com - for adding your favorite wines
How do I make Springpad work with my Google Calendar?
First, you need to authenticate with Google: go to Settings, click on the services tab and click the Authorize button to sync your Google and Springpad accounts. Then, create an Event in your Springpad calendar. A new calendar will be created in your Google calendar with all of your Springpad Events. If you make changes in either place, you will see updates.
Can I import my contacts?
We do not support traditional importing of all of your contacts. Rather, as you are working on a project, just add the relevant contacts to your Springpad at that time - whether it be party planning or gift planning. Just click on Add a Contact & you'll have the option of typing in a contact, or adding one from Facebook or Gmail.

Using Apps in Springpad

What if I want to add something like "leftovers" to my Weekly Meal Planner?
Good question! You can create a recipe called "Leftovers", but we know that that's less than ideal. We're working on a new version of the Meal Planner that will be more flexible to accommodate things like this. If you have other ideas, please share them with us: feedback@springpartners.com
I would like to sort my grids/budgets.
Unfortunately, this is not yet possible in Springpad.
How do I move things around?
Most things can be moved in Springpad by dragging & dropping. Use drag & drop to organize things on a page, between tabs, or between Apps. Also you can add the same item to multiple Apps from the item's full page view or by adding it directly to an App from Your Stuff. If the same item is present in multiple places and you make a change in one place, you will see it everywhere.
I want to create my own app. Help!
Start with the Notebook App. You can add your own tabs & choose what types of items are on each tab. Also, you can add a Filter Box & change between expanded & collapsed views. Just click on the wrench to find most of these settings. Soon, we will allow users to publish their Apps to the public directory - stay tuned!

For Developers

Does Springpad have an API?
Not yet! But we're planning on it!
